International Baccalaureate (IB)
The International Baccalaureate Programme (IB), founded in Geneva, Switzerland in 1968, is designed to develop the intellectual, personal, emotional and social skills of young people ages 3 - 19, enabling them to thrive in a globalized environment. The IB Mission Statement follows:
The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. To this end, the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment. These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.
VUSD is proud of our long history with IB, and of our three IB schools: Vista Magnet Middle School (IB Middle Years Programme), Rancho Buena Vista High School and Vista High School (IB Diploma Programmes).
Students who graduate from high school with an IB diploma frequently receive advanced credit for university coursework, and have a competitive edge with respect to college acceptance and scholarships.
