Advancement Via Individual Determination
AVID, Advancement Via Individual Determination, is a college readiness system for elementary grades through higher education that is designed to increase schoolwide learning and performance. The AVID College Readiness System (ACRS) accelerates student learning, uses research-based methods of effective instruction, provides meaningful and motivational professional learning, and acts as a catalyst for systemic reform and change.
The AVID program began in San Diego in 1980 and has now expanded across the US, and to Canada and Australia. Vista Unified has AVID programs in the following schools:
- Breeze Hill Elementary School
- Madison Middle School
- Rancho Minerva Middle School (Demonstration School)
- Roosevelt Middle School (Demonstration School)
- Vista Innovation Design Academy (V.I.D.A.)
- Mission Vista High School
- Rancho Buena Vista High School
