PASS PROGRAM

About the PASS AmeriCorps Program... PASS (Promoting Achievement and Student Success) is a mentoring, tutoring, leadership program to engage and motivate students to improve their academics, attendance and behavior; to be inspired to become positive school and community leaders. The PASS Mentor will meet with participating students to provide one-on-one and/or small group mentoring sessions to build positive relationships, provide academic tutoring in and out of the classroom, and engage students in youth development activities/discussions so students can become connected to school and academic achievement. The PASS Mentor strives to empower students to reach their fullest potential and become positive leaders - engaging students in leadership school and community volunteer activities and opportunities, youth development and prevention/intervention curriculum lessons that promote non-violence and healthy choices as outlined in the program. The PASS Mentor also serves as a liaison to connect students to other programs and/or resources on campus that facilitate academic and community participation. Students are required to return a signed permission slip from a parent or guardian to participate in the program.

Through the San Diego County Office of Education the PASS AmeriCorps Program collaborates with Madison Middle School and Vista Unified School District. PASS AmeriCorps program is in multiple schools and districts throughout San Diego County. PASS AmeriCorps is a grant funded program administered by California Volunteers and sponsored by the Corporation for National and Community Service.

Hello Everyone,

My name is Viviana, the newest PASS AmeriCorps Member here at Rancho Minerva. For those who aren’t aware of what PASS is,

it is a mentoring program aimed to help

high-need students in their education

and school community through mentoring,

academic support, and building meaningful

relationships. The goal of the program is

to have at least 50% of our students

improve or maintain good grades, attendance,

and/or behavior by the end of the year.

I will be here the entirety of the school year and be involved via push-ins or pull-outs with students from some of their classrooms.

Unfortunately, I can only have a caseload of 30 students at one time, each of which has to meet the mandatory requirements (feel free to reach out to me for requirement inquiries). I am happy to answer any questions or concerns you may have! Have a great day.

Sincerely,

Viviana Cordero
