AVID

AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination

AVID is a Vista Unified School District Success Story. Rancho Minerva Middle School is an AVID National Demonstration School.

The goal of the AVID program is to provide academic instruction and other support to students and to prepare them for eligibility for four-year colleges and universities. The AVID program enables us to maintain a college preparation focus for all of our students. With AVID classes on campus, visitors will observe AVID strategies in all of our classrooms. There are five AVID elective classes. AVID teachers teach in classes to expand students' college awareness and support rigorous academics, while our AVID tutors (college students from area universities) ensure that our AVID students process what they are learning.

The AVID program includes study skills, tutorials, college/career planning, regular binder checks, guest speakers, goal-setting, note-taking, and essay writing. For more information about AVID, please contact your student's counselor.
